Go ahead and enjoy that cup of coffee you want - in moderation of course

Guess what!  Coffee might save your life.  Okay, that may be a bit extreme, but studies now show those who indulge in regular coffee drinking decrease their of risk of developing several major health problems including cancer and type two diabetes due to the level of antioxidants found in coffee.  However, the key seems to be moderation - as with everything.

They concluded that the average adult consumes 1,299 milligrams of antioxidants daily from coffee. The closest competitor was tea at 294 milligrams. Rounding out the top five sources were bananas, 76 milligrams; dry beans, 72 milligrams; and corn, 48 milligrams. According to the Agriculture Department, the typical adult American drinks 1.64 cups of coffee daily.  Source

Please, read the article for yourself and make your own decision.  Personally, I believe the level of attention the American public pays to fad diets and the continual need to find certain foods to avoid is ironic when one word appears to be the answer - moderation.  As long as moderation exists instead of extremism in our daily lives, we will find the food God provides us through nature is beneficial for us.  Have your cup of coffee, drink a glass or two of wine, and eat that piece of cake as long as you use moderation instead of overindulging.

Deadly Category Five Hurricane Heads for New Orleans

Hurricane Katrina killed nine people, destroyed electrical lines, and left many in search of food in southern Florida now roars across the gulf towards New Orleans.  Water temperatures reaching ninety degree in the gulf strengthened Katrina to a category five hurricane this morning (Sunday).  Evacuations are proceeding throughout Louisiana and Mississippi with all interstates lanes directed northbound to aid in a smooth evacuation.

The situation is especially critical for New Orleans, because the city is below water level and regularly uses mechanical methods to pump water out of the city.  New Orleans officials are evaluating options for the hundred thousand residents unable to flee the city due to lack of transportation including the use of public transportation to move people to the Superdome.

Let us keep the safety of those in the path of Hurricane Katrina in our prayers

Practical Questions For Every Day Of The Week

Before The Altar Throne

Why Is Jesus There?

Jesus is in the Host because he loves us and could not leave us alone on earth, because he knows our miseries and wishes us to be able always to find therein the Heart of a friend, a Heart that will answer to ours.

Practical Questions For Every Day Of The Week
(Note: This section lists several questions for each day of the week, but I am going to post one question per day and it might not be the question assigned to that particular day.)

Before The Altar Throne

Who Is There?

Let us remember that he who is in the Host is the God who made us, who has given us everything, who loves us and who alone can understand the secrets of our hearts.

Christ the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, who became man, born of the Virgin Mary, is present. The same Jesus Christ still is with us, really, truly and substantially. He will remain with us till the end of the world.

Regulation of indecency at a stand still

The senate seems unable to pass or hear pending indecency bills.  While opponents believe, higher fines will prevent freedom of speech; supporters seek to protect their children from the trend of modern entertainment.  In all honesty, this is a hard topic for me, because freedom of speech is a sticky topic.  Banning something now, may lead to future 'bans' that limit our ability to speak out regarding religion or political issues.  I do fear for the future of America if we begin limiting freedom of speech.  I believe parents need to be controlling what their children watch instead of relying on the government.  If the American public rejected modern entertainment, entertains would have to reform the type of entertainment they offer, but many fail to reject the entertainment currently offered.  One only has to watch the continuing popularity of shows such as "Jerry Springer" in the afternoons and know nothing truly offends people today.  The best method of 'censorship' is the rejection of modern media and advertising by the American public.  For those who want to protect their children from indecency there are other methods - most especially getting the children out from in front of the television - available that do not require government involvement.

BARR shares fell 2.35% following FDA delay in making "Plan B" available without presciption

The FDA delayed another attempt by BARR to distribute "Plan B" to girls sixteen to older without prescription.  The FDA will accept public comments for sixty days although they could not predict when they will make a final decision.

I believe the logic behind this argument is seriously flawed.  We require prescriptions for everything other than common cold medicines, but we are suppose to believe it is good and moral to make an abortificant available over the counter to young girls.  Yes, sixteen-year-olds are still young girls and parents need to active in their lives.  We are endangering many generations by neglecting today's children, because future generations will not know what it means to be a parent or have a parent.  As I have seen mentioned elsewhere, a certain mentality calls sixteen-year-old girls, "women who need to be in charge of their bodies," but the men and women serving in Iraq and the American Armed Forces are "children".  This sickening thought process continues the promotion of the culture of death.  Do not take this as supporting the war in Iraq, because I have many questions and concerns regarding the war although I will support our deployed troops and hope they all return home safely.

John Paul II Movie will air again this weekend.

By popular demand, the heroic, true story of Pope John Paul II returns to television. The four-hour movie, “A Man Who Became Pope,” will air again on the Hallmark Channel Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. (ET). Source

I hope I am able to see it this time around.  Next step, hopefully they will release this wonderful movie on DVD.

Twelfth Rule

Work without ceasing to realize in your thoughts the Real Presence of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Give him your first thought, your first glance when you enter the church. Let him be the center of all that takes place there, prayers or ceremonies, sermons or instructions.

Let all your prayers pass through his lips for he is present in the Sacred Host. Place in his Heart all your good thoughts and wishes. Learn to adore him in his Eucharist that you may know how to adore him in Heaven. Perform all your pious exercises under his gaze, for he is watching you from the Tabernacle. Under his gaze receive the Sacrament of Penance. Have but one desire, to approach the Holy Table daily and strive with all your might to realize your desire. May the Eucharistic God become daily more and more your best Confidant and your most intimate Friend. Pray, work and live in him, by him, with him, in order to live with him for all eternity.

Just for fun

During a Eucharistic Congress, a number of priests from different orders are gathered in a church for Vespers. While they are praying, a fuse blows and all the lights go out.

The Benedictines continue praying from memory, without missing a beat.

The Jesuits begin to discuss whether the blown fuse means they are dispensed from the obligation to pray Vespers.

The Franciscans compose a song of praise for God's gift of darkness.

The Dominicans revisit their ongoing debate on light as a signification of the transmission of divine knowledge.

The Carmelites fall into silence and slow, steady breathing.

The parish priest, who is hosting the others, goes to the basement and replaces the fuse.

Something of considerable interest to me and maybe you

Recently I came across a site called catholicxjw, which is of considerable interest to me as a convert to the Catholic Church from the Jehovah Witnesses.  Last night I felt led to consider writing another conversion story that focuses on why I left the JWs, but dismissed this possibility as self-centered.  However, this morning I received an email from Jeff, The Fellowship of Catholic Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, asking me to write my conversion story and allow him to host it on his website.  For a number of reasons, my roots as Jehovah Witness are something I have ignored although they continue to have a daily impact on my life.  I have focused on the fact I am Catholic and not turning back.  Although this has worked for a number of years, I started realizing this is a selfish path and I must get over the animosity I feel towards the JWs.

Although I failed to realize it at the time, part of the reason I have been silent recently has been an intense interest in personal relationships and watching people grow in their relationships.  Working in an environment hostile to practicing Christians led me to start reading a book about dealing with difficult people, because it seemed nothing I did was working.  In fact, the scariest part is, the more I prayed the worse things got.  The past couple of weeks have been a time of considerable personal growth and I have even started job-hunting again so I can get out of my current environment and into a position with the local Church or Diocese.  I believe this growth is partly responsible for allowing me to be more open regarding why I left the Jehovah Witnesses.  Once I finish this round with my conversion story, I will post it here and on my home page.

Eleventh Rule

In your thoughts, accustom yourself to stay as constantly as possible under the gaze of Jesus — under this grace, this all-powerful virtue, which comes from the Tabernacle.

Show him your soul, and with you the souls of all dear to you. As the Jews of old brought their sick to him to be healed, so will you go to him, being content to offer him from time to time the following fervent supplication:

"Lord, you know my desires, Lord, heal my soul! Lord, make me see! Lord, make me love you"

California Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples face legal obligations toward children.

Certain groups against the legalizations of same-sex relationships through civil unions and/or marriage feel this ruling is a step backward.

"Today's ruling defies logic and common sense by saying that children can have two moms," said attorney Mathew Staver of Liberty Counsel. "That policy establishes that moms and dads as a unit are irrelevant when it comes to raising children."

While I cannot condone same-sex relationships, I believe this is the correct step for the courts to take. Although we need to vote to ensure our states do not legalize gay civil unions or pseudo-marriages, we cannot leave the children involved in these unions victimized. It is bad enough we have children raised without a true family unit. What is even worse is leaving these children unsupported and at the mercy of those who leave a same-sex union. Considering there are many biological men who walk away from their children and fail to pay support even with court intervention, I am revolted someone can say this ruling undermines the necessity of a mother and father. I am appalled any group would nay-say this decision, because children are innocent beings that need the protection of the courts instead of being used pawn in this political and legal debate. If we cannot prevent the adoption of children by same-sex couples, then at the least we need to protect these innocent and defenseless children through the courts. Shame on Matthew Staver for his lack of concern for these children who are becoming pawn and bait in a situation where they have no say and cannot protect themselves!

UK Family fights for their daughter's life

UK Hospital Fights to Retain “Do Not Resuscitate” Order Despite Child’s Improvement

PORTSMOUTH, August 22, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Charlotte Wyatt, the child with serious lung damage whom doctors predicted would not live past her first weeks of life, is improving dramatically. However, Portsmouth Hospital Trustees went to court to make sure that when Charlotte had a breathing crisis she would not be ventilated, as her parents desperately wished, on the grounds that her life was overly burdensome and should not be prolonged. On January 28 this year, the judge sided with the hospital, but Charlotte, now nearly two years old, continues to fight for her life.

Charlotte was born with damaged lungs and was not expected to live through last winter. She was never expected to improve and has never left the hospital in which she was born. The doctors argued in court that intensive care, should she enter a breathing crisis, would be an “intolerable” burden to her and that they would withhold treatment.

Now, however, the hospital is saying that they had always had the intention of treating Charlotte if she showed signs of improvement. The hospital said in a statement, “The existence of the order does not mean that we would never resuscitate Charlotte under any circumstances.”

The hospital said Charlotte’s improvement has been “remarkable.” She is breathing more easily and there is evidence that she is seeing and hearing and doctors are even considering the possibility that she may go home, though in court proceedings, the hospital said that there had been “unanimous” agreement that she would never be able to go home.

Despite the statement, however, the hospital will still be fighting against the request by her parents, Debbie and Darren Wyatt, to remove the ‘do not resuscitate’ order.

“Perhaps the doctors think that resuscitating Charlotte could set her back, but her lungs are less fragile now. Charlotte needs this order lifted,” said Darren Wyatt.

Hospital ethics boards are increasingly deciding against intensive care in cases of serious illness in favour of a set of criteria based around an arbitrarily judged “quality of life.” If a person’s quality of life is judged by a doctor to be below standard, that patient will often be in danger of passive or even active euthanasia by refusal of treatment or starvation and dehydration. Courts are more often siding with hospital boards who often have pragmatic reasons for not wanting to prolong the lives of patients deemed “hopeless” cases.

Minutes from a meeting of the Portsmouth Trust board said, “The trust would be prepared to go to the courts rather than send Charlotte to the intensive care unit. From past experience the court would agree with the doctors as they would feel that doctors cannot be forced to treat a child in a way they believe to be against the child's best interests - despite the wishes of the parents."

In the hearings, Wyatt told the court "When you grow to love someone, you can't just throw them away." The Wyatts, who are devout Christians, hold that life has inherent value in spite of suffering.

Charlotte’s parents are hoping to raise funds and awareness of her case with a website. The fund, says the site, is to raise funds for her medical care, for re-assessment and for medical equipment so that she can be brought home.

Twelve Rules For A Eucharistic Life

Tenth Rule

If during the day, some trial or trouble should come to you, go at once in spirit to the Tabernacle and confide it to Jesus. In contradictions speak to him at once, asking him to make you patient. If you should happen to be alone, go in spirit to keep him company. He is so often, abandoned by us, in his Tabernacle. Your own isolation will then seem to you less painful. If you are suffering go and rest your tired head on his Heart, and tell him your trials.

Twelve Rules For A Eucharistic Life

Ninth Rule

The Most Important Of All

1. Go and place yourself at least in spirit, before the Tabernacle under the gaze of Jesus.

2. Read over one of the questions, which you will find following this Rule.

3. Pause and reflect for a moment, and think of what your answer will be.

4. Then looking with the eyes of your soul at Jesus who knows your thoughts, say to him:

"Lord, make me understand, make me see, speak to my soul. Speak Lord and thy servant shall hear."

Ask the God of the Eucharist to speak to your mind and heart, even as he did to those who came to him when he was on earth, and be careful to keep in your mind the question that formed the subject of your meditation, asking Jesus to fill and penetrate your soul with it.

Seventh Rule

Form the habit of a daily visit to the Most Blessed Sacrament even if it should have to be when you are on your way to work, so that at the hour of death, Jesus will in his turn visit you. If time permits, profit by this visit to put in practice the directions of Rule Nine.

If it should happen that you cannot make your usual visit to the Blessed
Sacrament, make a spiritual visit before retiring and remain a few minutes in Adoration thinking of him who is in the Tabernacle only because of his great love for you.

Brosnan's days as 007 come to an end

After a decade in the role of James Bond Agent 007, Brosnan finds out he will no longer be 007 via a surprise telephone call. Apparently this was not a role Brosnan was overly attached to due to a variety of mandatory one-liners he felt unable to call the role his own. I wish him well although I look forward to finding out who the new "Bond, James Bond" will be.

South Carolina proposes drastic changes to Medicaid program

In a first of its kind suggestion, South Carolina aims to change the characteristics of Medicaid by creating personal health accounts for state recipients of Medicaid benefits. While this suggestion appears reasonable on the surface, because it will force people to take responsibility for their health care, I fear for children and others whose parents/guardians may handle the funds inappropriately. Given the likelihood of addiction and abuse in situations involving the defenseless, I believe we need more information regarding the handling of funds for minors and others without the ability to handle their own health care. I want to know what safeguards will exist to ensure guardians do not attempt to hoard the money in order to receive a large check at the end of the year since at the end of the year, left over money will be theirs to pocket. Once this question is answered fully and satisfactorily, I believe I can support this move by my state.

Catholic Modest Ladies - A Yahoo! Egroup:

This is a Yahoo! egroup for Catholic ladies who strive for modesty in their daily lives. Many of us wear head coverings at Mass if not continually. This group consists of ladies at various stages in their path to modesty, faith journey, and life experiences who gather (via the internet) for support and encouragement regarding modesty, spiritual growth, and praise of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In this light, we remember modesty can vary from culture to culture although modesty is not relative and we do not dictate a specific dress code. We recognize modesty is not legalistic response to a set of rules, but a combination of dress, mentality, and presentation. We maintain a peaceful and prayerful environment faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

Vatican representative sides with UN and takes a stand regarding gun
ownership

As Americans, we need to watch this situation regarding individual gun ownership and a possible unified global policy.

UN treaty includes unprecedented move towards global legalization of euthanasia and abortion.

The United Nations is broadening its horizons to include euthanasia in its most recent treaty for disabled persons.

It calls on nations to prevent "unwanted medical and related interventions ... from being imposed on persons with disabilities." The text makes illegal all "health ... services," possibly including life-saving nutrition and hydration, carried out without the "free and informed consent" of the person.

Who is going to stand up for those unable to speak for themselves? What happens when the disabled cannot speak for themselves or fully understand the consequences of their actions? I say this as someone with a profoundly deaf brother who has an elementary reading comprehension level when many of his hearing peers have already gone on to graduate school. Even those who communicate with my brother using American Sign Language (ASL) are unable to always communicate important information to him appropriately.

Apparently, the UN believes it is responsible for imposing a unilateral lack of respect for human life globally and many nations including those who prohibit or strictly regulate abortion are not speaking out against the UN agenda.

Unite yourself to the Masses which are being offered up at that moment - since there is not a minute of the day or night that the Holy Sacrifice is not being offered in some part of the world - and offer Jesus to the Heavenly Father, as a Victim, begging him to pardon in his name, all sinners, particularly yourself, and ask him to enkindle his love in all hearts to increase the number of. National chain supports Pharmacist's religious stand

"Our policy is to fill prescriptions for all customers in a timely manner and to make sure their needs are met and that they are satisfied," Dunn said. "As an employer, however, we must also accommodate a sincerely held religious conviction that may prevent a pharmacist from dispensing a certain prescription."

A Pharmacist refused to fill a woman's prescription for the 'morning after' pill Friday and gave the woman two options - come back the next morning so another Pharmacist could fill the prescription or transfer it to another store. The woman returned the next day when her prescription was filled with any delays.

Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood views this as a '"criminal" event that must be investigated.

Kathy Kushnir, vice president of external affairs for Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island, said, "If a woman presents a legal prescription, it must be filled at that time -- period, end of story."

Of course, Kushnir does not want to hear that some pharmacies do not carry the 'morning after' pill and are unable to fill the prescription when it is presented. Kushnir's comment more than unreasonable, it is another shining example of Planned Parenthood's desire to stomp on the individual rights to freedom of religion and that abortion on demand is the shining god of Planned Parenthood. They do not want to teach women anything other than it is okay to murder their unborn children and to bow to the altar of death. While I believe there may be misguided souls involved with the promotion of the Planned Parenthood agenda, I cannot believe someone this high in the company is misguided. We are witnessing a planned attack against life and individual
freedoms for the altar of death and greed. If abortion were not highly profitable, the industry would not be in existence today, because too many people do not support abortion on demand. Unfortunately, the almighty dollar speaks volumes.

One question to those holding the pro-life agenda: do you put your money where you say your beliefs are?

Roberts in the media

NARAL heeds criticism that their anti-Roberts ad went too far by pulling their most recent television commercial that depicts Roberts as supporting those who violate the sanctity of life while protesting abortion.

Senator Barbara Boxer threatens filibuster if Roberts does not satisfactorily answer questions regarding Roe v. Wade. Again, the left proves that they are mandating a litmus test for Supreme Court nominees. Abortion on demand without regulation is what the left seeks and fear of the unknown causes immediate knee-jerk reactions.

When asked by reporters, none of the seven Democrats said they would vote for Roberts if he said he opposed Roe. Boxer indicated it would be "impossible" for the group to vote for him.

Roberts should not be facing this test! Nominees to the court cannot answer these questions and it is beyond unreasonable for senators to demand answers to these questions in addition to privileged material that precedent proves cannot be released.

Eucharistic Path

Is it not true that charmed by the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we find ourselves drawn more and more to the Tabernacle where he keeps unceasing vigil, longing to bestow upon us his blessings and graces? Let us then, give ourselves up with all our hearts to the Divine attraction, for in Jesus alone is to be found all light, all strength, all consolation, and Jesus is there near us in his Eucharist.

It is the purpose of this little rule to help those who are dear to the Heart of Jesus, to go to him more regularly and to leave his presence with greater benefits.

It will help you to live a Eucharistic life, and to develop it daily to greater advantage.

We have drawn up these simple rules for all, since Jesus wishes to see all his children gathered about his tabernacle, living by him and in him.

They are within the reach and practice of all.

The young child preparing in his innocent heart a dwelling for Jesus, will learn by them to pray better and to think of his dear Savior more frequently.

The young man or girl wishing to be faithful to the God of their first Communion and to the promises of that great day, will find there in the shelter where their faith and love, perhaps already attacked by the enemy, may be made secure, and faithful souls will learn to live at the feet of Jesus Sacramental and to draw from his Heart the grace to advance rapidly in the way of holiness.

To those assailed by doubt and discouragement, absorbed by material cares and drawn into frivolous pleasures, the practice of these simple rules will be a source of strength; they will find therein the help of him who during his mortal life, commanded the winds and waves, death and Satan, and whose only desire in having his abode amongst us is to assure to us his merciful Heart in his Sacramental Presence in the Tabernacle, and to offer us a sure refuge.

Let us learn to go there to him where his love keeps him in our midst, and let us say to ourselves: If our souls are weak, if our faith is tottering, our prayers tepid, if we need courage, or are wanting in fervor and love, it is because we do not seek for the Remedy, there where it is to be found; that is to say, at the feet of that Jesus who on the roads of Judea healed all ills and who today living and glorified, is as merciful and as powerful as then, awaiting us in the Tabernacle to heal our souls and to strengthen, sanctify, guide and sustain us on the way to heaven.

Let us then, embrace with good will these few, simple and easy practices, and let us not be discouraged if led away by the weakness of our human nature or the cares of business, we may have ill observed these rules, but let us rather return to them on the morrow with greater confidence.

Let us return to them every day and take pleasure in reading them over and over. Let us carry them with us everywhere and constantly renew our desire to be faithful to them.

Above all - and these two points are absolutely essential for any Eucharistic life - never let any day pass without:

Firstly, going (if only in spirit) to lay our soul at the feet of Jesus present in the Tabernacle, to show him our miseries, as a gardener exposes a plant to the rays of the sun.

Secondly, reflecting for an instant in his presence and under his gaze, on the motives, which have induced him to dwell thus in our midst.

Let us beg him to enlighten our souls and make us understand what our true interests are, and what it is that he asks of us.

Chinese woman seeks asylum

Yang's case was the first to bring up the possibility of sterilization drugs, but Pignone said he wouldn't be surprised if Chinese population control officials were seeking a cheaper, faster and more effective way of punishing women who violate the one-child rules.

This atrocious event is another example of oppression by the Chinese government. A civilized government does not consider force sterilization of women for any reason. This type of government violence is a crime against humanity that must end.

Introduction to My Eucharistic Day by Saint Peter Julian Eymard.

Here is an introduction to the Eucharist postings I will post over the next few weeks.

Dedication And Acknowledgement

Into the hands of Our Immaculate Mother under the title of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament this little work is reverently surrendered. May the Mother of the God-Man, through the Most Blessed Sacrament — the Fruit of her Immaculate Womb, sanctify the souls privileged and predestined to constitute Christ's Mystical Body.

This little work was compiled from the writings of Saint Peter Julian Eymard with the permission and encouragement of the Blessed Sacrament Fathers.

The persons who are directly responsible for the selection and arrangement of this material, in deference to the Majesty of him whom they wish to give first service, ask not to be mentioned by name.

"And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the
world." (Matt. 28, 20)

What would YOU like to see posted at SCC?

Considering this is the Year of the Eucharist, I am going to start posting small snippets regarding the Eucharist, Adoration, and Benediction and practicing the Eucharistic presence of Christ. I hope the non-Catholics who read this site are not offended by these postings and maybe even open to the teachings offered. I also hope to address issues such as confession, the Brown Scapular, natural family planning, and many other interesting issues in addition to the current topics. So, let us hear the suggestions so this site can stay afloat and most importantly interesting.

Eucharist Adoration during the Year of the Eucharist

Eucharist Adoration and Benediction are commonplace for most Catholics and enhance a person's prayer life in a powerful way. As a result, it is unsurprising that modern technology is attempting to bring Eucharist Adoration to your home through the internet. Here is a site that offers at home Adoration through a live web cam in their Eucharistic Chapel. I am cautiously optimistic regarding this site and the benefits of viewing our Eucharistic Lord via the internet provided there is nothing liturgically incorrect occurring and this does not replace attending Adoration when possible. A friend of mine is ecstatic and I must say the sight does offer a sense of reverence. What is your opinion? Considering two thousand five is the Year of the Eucharist, this may be a worthwhile intention.

Roberts questions current role of American courts

In a Feb. 10, 1983, memo, Roberts wrote that "a new tier of judicial review is a terrible idea." The justices were to blame for taking too many cases and issuing "opinions so confusing that they often do not even resolve the questions presented," Roberts wrote.

"So long as the court views itself as ultimately responsible for governing all aspects of our society, it will, understandably, be overworked," Roberts wrote. "A new court will not solve this problem." Source

Yes, most Americans support abortion limits

Recent polls show that Americans support limited availability of abortion although they do not want Roe v. Wade reversed. These numbers fully support Father Pavone's article stating Americans do not understand Roe v. Wade which legalizes abortion through out all trimesters of a pregnancy. Although the original ruling left regulation up to the state, courts have consistently reversed attempts to regulate abortion. "Reasonably related to maternal health" has been deemed to cover everything including "mental health". In essence, abortion is legal on demand throughout a woman's pregnancy. As the numbers below show, Americans do not truly support Roe v. Wade, which causes one to ask if they understand Roe v. Wade considering the numbers who say they support Roe v. Wade. What many also do not realize is that if Roe v. Wade were over turned tomorrow, abortion would not be illegal across the nation, because most states no longer have legislature against abortion.

Abortion Should be:

More available 35%

More limited 23

Illegal expect rape/incest/save mother 31%

Never 9%

Require Parental Consent:

Favor 73%

Oppose 22%

Over turn Roe v. Wade:

Yes 29%

No 5%

Questions about Vaccines containing embryonic tissues?

A new statement has been released:

a Vatican official has urged Catholics in the US to read the full text of a statement by the Pontifical Council for the Family, on the topic of vaccinations that are produced from embryonic tissues.

The Vatican official wrote that American Catholics who refuse to accept tainted vaccination could find support in the document from the Pontifical Council. "But more important," he said, "is lobbying to get alternative vaccines free entrance into the US."

Original coverage by CWN states:

Although parents and doctors may be morally justified in using such vaccines, when no alternative is available, the Vatican document says that they "have a duty to take recourse to alternatives, putting pressure on political authorities and health systems" to produce morally acceptable alternative treatments.

Cloning in the headlines again

"Snuppy", the first cloned dog was 'born' 24 April in Seoul although the dog's existence was not announced until 3 August. Additionally, headway is being made in xenotransplants (organ transplants from animals to men or from one species to another).

Although I understand scientists feel the need to cure a variety of diseases, what is it going to take for us to realize that the end does not justify the means? Yes, it is cliché, but it is the truth! We cannot sacrifice innocent life for the sake of saving another's. While this is a dog we are talking about, let us not fool ourselves into thinking this is where they are going to stop. The ultimate goal is human cloning for therapeutic and reproductive purposes. While all cloning is immoral and indefensible, therapeutic cloning should scare us most especially, because they are going to kill embryos to create a clone and then kill the clone to use its organs or tissues for other purposes. A British scientist is petitioning for permission to seek out women willing to donate ova for therapeutic cloning (I will post the link when I find it). This should scare us for a number of reasons, but most especially due to the mindless destruction of human life, this leads to. Remember the creation of Dolly led to the destructions 277 embryos. Imagine the number of human lives lost in one day, one year if cloning of humans is ever permissible just for the eventual destruction of the clone too.

While society has lost any comprehension of our need to protect human life, especially of the innocent and disabled, as the Terri Schiavo case demonstrated, we must continue to speak out against this continued assault against human life.

Technical Difficulties: Solved, I hope

I have not posted much the past couple days although I have spent extensive time online due to extensive technical issues. Although I am not sure what went wrong I believe I have fixed the problems and can return to your regularly programmed posting. Please let me know if you see any problems or if any reciprocal links are missing so I can fix the issue immediately.

Political Correct guidelines for investigating and capturing Muslims

Recent guidelines concerning the actions of British officers while investigating, raiding, and interacting with Muslims were released recently. They include

Rapid entry needs to be the last resort and raids into Muslim houses are discouraged for a number of religious dignity reasons.

Police should seek to avoid looking at unclad Muslim women and allow them an opportunity to dress and cover their heads.

For reasons of dignity officers should seek to avoid entering occupied bedrooms and bathrooms even before dawn.

Advice should be sought before considering the use of cameras and camcorders due to the risk of capturing individuals, especially women, in inappropriate dress.

If people are praying at home officers should stand aside and not disrupt the prayer. They should be allowed the opportunity to finish.

In the current climate the justification for pre-dawn raids on Muslim houses needs to be clear and transparent.

While I support the need for sensitivity when dealing with non-Christian faiths, should not these same principals apply to any individual regardless of their belief system? At least the following statement shows a bit of common sense

Abdul Malik, chairman of Luton Race Advisory Forum, said "police need to be sensitive when they are going into the homes of everybody – not just Muslims."

Although the following statement annoys me, because it is important to remember that it is common for Christians also to have a consecrated space devoted to prayer.

"They should keep respect. Some Hindus and Sikhs have a place or a room devoted to prayer and that should be respected too," he said.

Hostility and tension can be exasperated through specialize treatment of a certain group while ignoring the respect and dignity of other groups. I believe the key to defusing and dealing with groups properly is by respecting all faiths and all individuals. I know I do not want men looking at or filming me in a state of undress, so why should respecting a person’s right to modesty or other forms of dignity be limited to Muslims?

Cause for concern?

Not sure I understand the implications of this case.

Blog Administration

Hello everyone! As you will notice, I am making gradual changes to SCC. In the near future, I hope to have at least one friend posting along with me to offer a variety of topics, viewpoints, and take a little bit of weight off my shoulders. I will make brief introductions when someone new will be posting. I hope this change is for the better and everyone enjoys the new posters.

Additionally, you will notice I am adding links in the recommended books section. I am recommending Pauline Books and Media Online Store when possible, because The Daughters of St. Paul and their bookstores are amazing! There is nothing like walking into a Catholic bookstore knowing you can visit Christ in the tabernacle while there. If I cannot find the item online through Pauline Books and Media, I will link to the publisher's site or as a last option, Amazon. Although I have nothing against Amazon, I prefer to use and recommend Catholic resources when feasible so we can directly support those spreading the Word of God through print.

Top NARAL spokesman resigns

Director of communications, David Seldin, resigns on the heels of heavy criticism from pro-lifers and pro-abortionists regarding Roberts ad.

"I'm very proud of the work I've done here in the past two years, and especially proud of the leadership role this organization is taking both in the current Supreme Court debate, and in its efforts to change the dynamics of the political debate around reproductive freedom" Seldin said in an email to friends obtained by LifeNews.com.

In the note, Seldin told friends he'd been considering leaving NARAL after the conclusion of the Roberts confirmation vote. By leaving now, however, Seldin said he can vacation with his family on Cape Cod.

Way to go Michael and best wishes working with Ramsay!

World renown chef, Gordon Ramsay, not only announced the winner of Hell's Kitchen tonight, he also extended an invitation for Michael to train with him in London, because he realized Michael's talent was something he did not want to lose. After a moment of hesitation and exchange of looks with his wife, Michael accepted Ramsay's invitation.

Normally, I avoid reality television like a plague, but HK caught my attention from the first moment and kept it through the end. While I enjoyed HK and watched every possible episode, I have one major critique of the show due to the excessive volume of profanity used not only by contestants, but also by Chef Ramsay. My deepest wish is that modern television could entertain without usage of profanity. Profanity, especially in the excess, detracts from a person’s attractiveness and removes a layer of respect for the person.

Without a doubt, I am thrilled Michael won. In all honesty, I did not like Ralph, although I realize confidence is necessary, something in his persona and presentation is abrasive. Talent wise, both were equal, but personality wise, Michael, tattoos and all, had the best personality and I believe the most potential.
